Many definitions of innovation are available among academic researchers and practisioners. One of this it that innovation can be defined as "the intentional introduction and application within a role, group or organization, of ideas, processes, products or procedures, new to the relative adoption unit, designed to benefit significantly from the individual, the largest group or society" (West, 1990, 309). Clinical innovation is generally defined as "new drugs, devices and clinical practices introduced over time in the provision of healthcare" (Consoli and Mina, 2009; 2015). Clinical innovation has radically changed the way we manage, treat and perceive diseases (Brodsky, 2010). It was through appropriate technological development that doctors, engineers and scientists have enabled millions of people to live longer in a healthier life (Fuchs & Sox , 2001) (Grimes, 1993), 1993). Because medical innovations draw on different sources of knowledge, universities, companies, hospitals and research institutes are all involved in the development of clinical innovations (Nicolini, 2010; Ramlogan et al., 2007). So, clinical innovation is a complex phenomenon that results from the interaction of science, technology, medical practice and policy (Morlacchi & Nelson, 2011). The thesis analyzes the dynamics of knowledge transfer in the context of clinical innovation. The first chapter aims to illustrate the topic of clinical innovation. The chapter aims to investigate the nature of clinical innovation, the overall process of clinical innovation and the role of one of the main actors involved in clinical innovation: research hospitals. The second chapter analyzes the dynamics of knowledge transfer within research hospitals. The objective of the study is to identify the combination of resources that facilitates the achievement of good performance. The third chapter analyzes the dynamics of knowledge transfer by observing the creation of a business in the life sciences sector. The objective of the study is to investigate how to create a business in a poor ecosystems. The fourth chapter analyzes one of the actors in the knowledge transfer process: technology transfer professionals. The objective of the study is to investigate how and if perceptions on empowerment and engagement influence the performance of technology transfer professionals.
